James Chu is a composer and clarinetist of acoustic and electro-acoustic chamber and orchestral compositions. He has collaborated with the JACK Quartet, Mivos Quartet, Ensemble Dal Niente, Deviant Septet, Crossing, Lorelei Ensemble, the North Carolina Symphony, and the Princeton One-Act Opera Project, amongst others. He holds a B.A. from Princeton University, a M.Mus. from the Peabody Institute, and a Ph.D. from Duke University, where his dissertation examined simplicity in music focusing on the works of Erik Satie, John Cage, and Alvin Lucier.
